Custom-coded websites are way better than ready-made templates

This is the age of digitization. Businesses, companies, corporations have all gotten on the road to creating and developing their online presence. There are often two approaches to how businesses can do this, i.e., how they can create websites: custom-code websites, or use readymade templates.

The difference between custom-coded websites and readymade templates:

  1. The Process: This is a very basic difference between the two. Custom-coded websites are, as the name suggests, custom-coded. Developers and designers collaborate with their clients to build these websites from scratch. Ready-made templates on the other hand make use of pre-coded functions and features to help people build websites by choosing from a variety of templates.
  2. Time & Money: Since these are two different processes, the cost and the time period to develop each is different.
Since custom-coded websites are built from scratch and everything is coded & designed manually, this becomes a lengthy process, and the longer a company has hired the developers, the more it will cost them. The purpose of readymade templates was to save costs that are required to develop and code a website, since anyone could do it themselves, even without any knowledge of coding.
  3. Quality: Readymade website templates were meant to be fast and affordable, not beautiful. This is the major disadvantage of readymade website templates. They are basic HTML web pages that don’t look very elegant, which implicates poor quality.
Since custom-coded websites are developed by expert designers, they are exceptionally aesthetic, and hence, very high in quality.
  4. Usability & Functionality: Now again, here’s the thing. Since readymade templates are very basic and can only perform a limited number of functions, they are limited in terms of ease-of-use and functionality.

What if there’s a feature you want, but the template library does not have it? You will simply have to skip it or hire a developer to code it for you, which you were trying to avoid. If you are having to hire a developer in the end, you might as well have done it in the beginning right?

A brief comparison of ready-made template-based websites & custom coded websites:

After a careful analysis of the above points, it becomes very clear that the only possible con that custom-coded websites have is that they are a bit expensive, and take more time to develop. But what business owners must consider is whether it would be worth it.

Let’s take an example. A business decides to save money and makes a website using ready-made templates, finishes the development in one week, with half the cost of custom-coded websites, since the website was made using a ready-made template, it would not be always possible to amend & alter it as per the requirement, which would gradually lead to bad customer experience, and bad customer experience would ultimately negatively affect sales, and the business will have to suffer losses.

Not worth saving a few bucks anymore, is it?

So what can a business do? Simple. Let the experts handle it. Hiring a team of developers & opting for a custom-coded website ensures your website can be a strong backbone to a business.
